On a recent trip to Texas to visit my eldest son and his family, I was able to tag along to Texas Children’s Hospital for some appointments for my ten-year old granddaughter, Renley. Located in the medical district of Houston, it is an imposing structure 20+ stories tall.
One of her appointments that day was to meet the surgeon who will eventually perform the heart transplant operation for which she is now listed and waiting. According to my daughter-in-law, this doctor is world-renowned for being the top pediatric heart transplant surgeon, yet he took time to sit and talk with Renley and her mom, to answer questions and to sit for a photo. However…Renley (who has spent literally countless hours, days, weeks and even months in hospitals and at appointments), announced definitively in the midst of their time together, “I’m bored!” Needless to say, her mom was nothing short of mortified.
Isn’t this how human beings are with God? The Great Physician, the Great Healer, the Master of ALL, yet so often people ignore Him, claim to be tired of hearing about who He is and what He’s done.
Renley could not totally grasp that this man might one day give her a chance at a new and extended life.
It’s why we have so much to celebrate this week. It’s why Jesus came and died and was raised to new life. It’s what God offers: new and extended – ETERNAL -life, yet so many seem “bored” with hearing it.
As the doctor sat by my granddaughter, so the Master is at hand. He’s in your presence. Are you too bored to listen and take Him up on His offer? (I can tell you that Renley hasn’t missed that: she knows Jesus and would tell you in no uncertain terms that you should, too.)
Or, is there someone you care about who is consistently tired of hearing about what the Master can do?
Pray they will get over being bored and will not miss out. And, as you do, be thankful for His sacrifice as we celebrate Easter.
“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts…” (Psalm 95:7)
“He who has ears to hear, let him hear…” (Matthew 11:15)
“But, Jesus said, ‘Do not be afraid any longer, only believe’.” (Mark 5:36)
“He who believes in the Son has eternal life…” (John 3:36)
Thank you for sharing this sweet experience. I’m grateful the LORD is patient and gracious with me, enough to gift me with eternal life. Have a meaningful Easter🙌
I wish everyone in the world was as honest as Renley.
Thx for sharing about Renley! Been in our prayers for a long time! She’s faced soooo much! Help us all to remember in a new special way and not get bored even though we’ve heard of our redemption and future so many times! We won’t have to wait much longer now!
Amen!! 🙂
You’ve got me thinking. How many times have I fallen asleep while praying? Guess Ren and I are not so different! Thank you for this spin!
We must have unending patience.
In total agreement with the previous Donna. This is a week of humbling myself at the foot of the cross and praying for friends and family to heed that don’t have time to heed His call.
Another Jesus follower…Donna
On this Resurrection Sunday we can meditate and be grateful for calling us into His kingdom!
Renley knows Jesus and like the rest of us finds waiting hard. Sometimes life is boring until we get up and move for Jesus. May God Bless Renley and her family and doctors. Easter blessings, He has risen.
