When Nothing Is Something

Nothing often seems to be our default, doesn’t it?  What are you doing?  “Oh, nothing.”  What’s on your mind?  “Oh, nothing.”  What’s bothering you? “Oh, nothing.”  It may be the easiest response, but it’s evasive and not always honest.  You have pain, but “Oh, it’s nothing.”  Really?  I have nothing to wear.  Seriously?  I’m bored.  There’s nothing to do.  Kids often say this while standing in a room full of toys and a God-given imagination just waiting to be tapped.  There’s nothing good in the world.  Truly nothing?

The real issue?  We aren’t looking hard enough or in the right place.  We’re exaggerating.  Or, we’re being dishonest (with ourselves and with others).  What to do???  Nothing?  Actually, as the 60s saying goes, “Not to decide is to decide.”

So, nothing to do or wear?  Look deeper (or, again).  Nothing good in the world?  Change focus.  What’s bothering you or on your mind?  Be honest.

Nothing is usually something.  (Something is also often nothing, but that’s a subject for another day).

My dear mother-in-law had what many would describe as nothing.  But, she didn’t see it that way.  She took what she had, made something and then, very often, quietly gave it away.  How’s that for an example?

When nothing is something…

“…be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”  (Romans 12:2)

Certainly something we all need to be reminded of. Or maybe I am just speaking for myself. 😊 Thanks again, Teri, for a great devotional. ❤

Stunning thoughts and beautifully written. It has given me pause today to thank God for all He is doing in my life.
