Turning A Blind Eye

While on the “dreadmill” one day (as my sister used to call it), I looked at the window in front of me and noticed the blinds were tilted up – mostly closed.  I like having blinds because they allow some light to come in but also prevent passers-by from seeing inside.  It occurred to me that having them even partially shut keeps the light out sometimes – first thing in the morning, for example – when that light can be positively blinding.  Is that why they’re called “blinds”?

But, consider:  is this how we are with God?  After all, His light shines on us and illuminates our sin.  Do we try to hide behind the “blinds”?  Do we want to be blind to our sin so we don’t have to admit it?  So, we don’t have to confess our need for God?  Are we turning a blind eye…?

Then, we’re only kidding ourselves.  God sees through any and all barriers we might try to put up.  We may close the blinds (so to speak), but we’re the only ones who can’t see.  Thankfully, He loves us enough and keeps pursuing us.

The question is:  where have you closed a blind in your life?  Where are you trying to hide from God?  Ask Him to shine His light upon it and show you.  Open the blinds and let the light of His truth come in.

“No one comes to Me unless the Father draws him…”  (john 6:44)

“…man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart.”  (1 Samuel 16:7)
