At this time of year, many of us run around like chickens with our heads cut off looking for the perfect gift for our loved ones, most of whom need absolutely nothing. I used to get especially stressed over what to buy for my parents who were in the category of having everything. My dad thought it was cool that I shopped at thrift shops so one year I got him a sweater for $2. He was so excited about that!
My eleven-year old granddaughter needs a heart. I would get her one in a heartbeat (pardon the pun), if I could. In fact, I have volunteered mine a few times, but God isn’t going for that option. (As if He needed my help). She recently asked her uncle if he prayed, reminding him that she’s still waiting for a heart – as if he might be the missing link in the prayer chain. He assured her that he was indeed praying for her. In God’s timing, Renley will get her new heart because someone else will make the sacrifice (albeit, unknowingly) by dying that she might have new life.
Wait. That sounds familiar…
Many of us would say that what we truly fear is being wrong (about anything, but especially about the “next life”, as it is often called). What we really want is certainty, peace and a day (or, era) without death which typically scares us.
Jesus provided all of this by being born. It’s why we even have such a thing as Christmas! He came into the world in human flesh (not a small condescension on His part), walked on earth as a man, then died in our place and was raised to new life which is a picture for us of what is to come.
Why do we trouble ourselves with trying to find the perfect gift when it’s already been given? Stake your life on that truth, and you won’t be wrong. Then, share it with those you love.
A blessed Christmas to all!
“For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
I soooo love this post!! Printing it out for sharing. Hope that’s okay since you said to share the greatest gift of all!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
May sweet Renley get her needed heart that you are all waiting and praying for.
