Isn’t it funny how a thought can come into your mind, leaving you wondering where it came from, out of the blue? Sometimes they’re sad and other times they can be entertaining.
Many years ago (ok, decades) when I was in college, my mom and I were making a trip by car back to their place in South Carolina, my dad having gone ahead. I was driving and we stopped in Indianapolis to get gas. As we exited the car, I accidentally (who would do it on purpose?), slammed my finger in the car door. (Duh). God, in His infinite wisdom, designed our bodies with a warning system called pain. For an instant, I just stared at the door, with one finger missing, then quickly opened the door to retrieve my damaged and bloody finger. The poor gas station owner panicked and saw liability so he called 911 and suddenly a litany of fire trucks, ambulances, and multiple police cars arrived on the scene, lights flashing and sirens blaring. Talk about wanting to go and hide somewhere…
We subsequently went to a medical facility where they stitched it up and wrapped it in a giant bandage (of course, it had to be the middle finger and I was headed to college the next week). After this inadvertent and unanticipated layover, we got back in the car – my mom behind the wheel. She promptly looked over at me and said, “Some people will do ANYTHING to get out of driving!”
My mom was – as is often said, “One of a kind”. She was definitely a kick! She had more expressions than you could count, and we use something from the list on a daily basis. It keeps her memory alive and gives us a laugh.
Is there someone that comes to mind in your life that always brings back pleasant memories? Stop and reflect on that special relationship and that special person. Those moments are gifts.
“I thank my God every time I remember you…” (Philippians 1:3)
Your humor so appreciated, even in the most serious situations!
I’m still smiling and thank God for every remembrance of YOU!😊
Made me smile today. Yes. I have lots of memories like that though never lost a finger. Wow! Thx for that story. You bless me with these blogs!
I’m thinking of someone. You may know her. 😉❤️
Another blessings from God. He gives us memories of those people dear to us.
Beautiful 🙂
Yep – you know her well too….Martha Susan! 20 years gone now — can’t believe it and I still miss her so much.
