Life Is Like A Toilet Paper Roll

If the title hasn’t scared you away, you probably can guess this may not be the most intellectual blog you’ve ever read.  However, if you’ve done any traveling or at least gone out to public places, you have probably noticed the difference in what is offered in Rest Rooms.  When I was in Europe in the late 1960s, what the Italians were using resembled waxed paper.  Yikes!  Anyway, settle in for a bit of an analogy…

The beginning of the roll must typically be torn away from itself in order for it to be useful.  This is reminiscent of birth when the baby is “torn away” from the womb, being separated from its source.  At the end of the roll, it has layers which are stuck together when it reaches the cardboard and then the final piece is torn away.  The layers on our bodies become wrinkles until we are finally taken from life and we’re finished, becoming stiff like the cardboard base.  That’s when there’s ROLL call.    🙂

In between our birth and death we either pull and struggle to get life to yield (as with some rolls you encounter in your travels), or it flies at us with breakneck speed and we’re trying to collect all the pieces and parts, attempting to put everything back in place.

In the midst of all this, of course, we find our comfort level is best at home.  It’s where things are at least somewhat controllable (both the type of paper we purchase and the environment we create for ourselves).  There are always curve balls thrown at us wherever we might be, but life is just better at home, isn’t it?

With that in mind, imagine the true home that awaits us – no more things thrown at us, no more struggling and pulling.  No more frustration.  Just peace in the presence of the Lord.

“But, as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one…”  (Hebrews 11:16)

“For our citizenship is in heaven…”  (Philippians 3:20)

So how good to be reminded of our heavenly home where we will enjoy peace in the presence of the LORD.
