It’s Free?

Our world has become so commercialized these days.  It seems like everything is for sale or has its own price tag.  Or, as it’s been said, “You can get whatever you want as long as you’re willing to pay for it.”  You can even buy a friend – as long as you don’t mind the quality of the friendship.

Living in a retirement community has its perks, one of which is an establishment which handles various medical devices and aids as well as baby items in case grandchildren show up for a visit.  The beauty of it is that you can just borrow any item free of charge and return it when it is no longer needed.  I stopped by one day to pick up something a friend needed, and as I was waiting for the nice lady to place and fill my order, I noticed a small sign which said, “Free Prayer”. It drew my attention because it struck me as strange.  I realized later that it was atop a small display which had a prayer written on a card that anyone could take so that it might have read, “Free Prayer Card”.

It got me thinking:  prayer is FREE.  We don’t have to toss anything into a collection plate.  We don’t have to pay someone to say a prayer for us.  We don’t have to hire someone to listen to our prayer.  It doesn’t have to be on anyone else’s schedule so no appointment is required.  It’s as simple as having aa thought run through your mind.

The most important issue is to whom you address your prayers.  God is the Maker and Creator of all things.  He knows your very thoughts, what you’re feeling, fearing, struggling with or even celebrating.  In whatever the circumstance, God loves you and wants you to come to Him.  No appointment necessary.  No waiting in line.  No fee to pay.  Just a loving Father with open arms…

“Pray without ceasing…”  (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
