God’s Canopy

In my usual neighborhood, on my usual quiet street, on my usual walk at the usual time, I saw the most amazing thing.  Moving along a side street as I headed South, I looked ahead and saw the clouds seemed to come off of the horizon in front of me in a completely horizontal fashion that worked its way into a gigantic V shape which sent the cloud sections directly over my head.  They seemed like stripes, and they reflected the sun in a beautiful pinkish lavender.  It was absolutely stunning!  But, what I didn’t know at first is that what I was seeing was only half of it.  As I turned down my street, I glanced to my right (North) and discovered a mirror effect of what I had just seen which consequently and literally met in the middle of the sky overhead.  I stood in awe of what God had made just for that moment and was so grateful for His blessing.  What a way to start the day!  When I got home, I was so fired up, I had to describe it to Dave right away who immediately responded with, “God’s canopy”.  Hence, the title for today.

It did indeed appear as a canopy which is exactly a picture of God’s protection.  A canopy is something that protects from the elements: sun, rain, snow, hail.  We can’t predict with any accuracy when they might come upon us so a covering acts as “insurance”.

Our Lord didn’t just redeem us (as if that’s not MORE than enough).  He also provides for us, but He protects us, too, from the “elements” – many of which we cannot even see.  We’ve already spoken several times of the ways He protects us when we are unaware: a fall we could have suffered and didn’t, going to the store and getting home safely, and similar scenarios.

So, as we have our turkey dinner this week, may we pause and reflect on the many ways He protects us, His children.  We certainly cannot know and recognize all of them, but we know that He watches over His beloved family, and we can take time to be grateful.

Thank You, Lord.

What a great picture and a great blessing for you on your walk! Sometimes I wish I were more aware! So much I think I miss. He is great and greatly to be praised! Someday I look forward to seeing Him as He is! That’s something I won’t miss!

What you have witnessed and testified reminds me of David words in the first stanza of Psalm 19 especially about the sun breaking out of its bedchamber to make its circuit from one horizon to the other. The sky and heaven testifying of the glories of God. What a marvelous sight! What a majestic sight you saw!
    Have a blessed Thanksgiving.
