Give Thanks

When Thanksgiving rolls around, we often think of the many blessings the Lord has bestowed upon us and that becomes our focus (hopefully, more than the turkey and preparations).  We thank Him for health, home, family, friends, the gift of life, His Son and a host of many and varied things.

As we approach that time of year, how about looking at an  ADDITIONAL  reason to be grateful?  Stop and think for a moment of someone in your life you may owe a gift of thanks…It may be a colleague, a boss, a business partner, a neighbor, a good friend who is always there for you, or even a family member who may still live under the same roof as you.  Who is that special person who is there when you need them?  We tend to miss the most important ones because we view them like “an old shoe”.  He/she may be around so much we tend to take him/her for granted.

When you have really thought this over (have I laid enough guilt on you now?), how about doing something special to show your appreciation?  By the way, this does NOT have to involve anything major.  Nowadays we tend to text or email because we are in such a rush and it’s so convenient.  What happened to the written word?  How about taking the time to send (or stick under a pillow) a card with a hand-written note, expressing your thoughts?  Something that is written can be re-read and enjoyed over and over.  Treasured, even.

At this time of year, we may be aware of being thankful for our many blessings, but why not give the GIFT of appreciation to someone special in your life?

“I thank my God every time I remember you…”   (Philippians 1:3)
