Credit Where Credit Is Due

I’m guessing we can all find things about ourselves that we don’t especially like.  When my boys were growing up, I would occasionally see a trait of mine crop up in one of them.  One of my least favorite things. I immediately reacted in horror to myself:  “Oh, no!  Please, no!”  Thankfully, it seemed to pass and each grew up into his own man.  (I confess, I have not inquired of my daughters-in-law if said characteristic has reasserted itself).

Yes, we have frailties which we confess to God.  Judgments we pass, things we might say that could easily have been left unsaid, choices we make.  Thankfully, God loves us, anyway.

But, what are some things you actually like about yourself?  This is not a prideful issue.  After all, the Bible says to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength and your neighbor AS YOURSELF” (Mark 12:29-31).

So, stop and think of three positive things about yourself.  (This is about characteristics: generosity, friendliness, compassionate, good listener, for example).  Then, give credit where credit is due.  God made you so thank Him for who He made you to be.  Each of us is unique.  You are special.  Be grateful and be available.  If He isn’t already, He may want to use your gifts.

“You knitted me together in my mother’s womb; I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”  (Psalm 139:13-14)

“Now there are varieties of gifts but the same Spirit…but one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one as He wills.”  (1 Corinthians 12:4,11)
