Old folks always want to tell their stories and very often they are embellished at least a bit. It’s all about how tough life used to be in their day. “I walked to school 10 miles in the freezing temperatures – uphill both ways.” “In my day, the phone was on the wall and 10 other families were with us on a party line.” “When anyone talked back to the teacher, she would smack their knuckles with a ruler – hard!” Etc., etc., etc.
Speaking of difficult times: while visiting in New Mexico recently, I walked the two miles to my sister-in-law’s house from where I was staying. The altitude in that area is 6500′ and most of the way was on a gradual incline (both ways…right!), but this particular day the wind was blowing a gale – in my face, of course. Battling this ferocious wind while continuing the gradual climb, I felt as though I was getting nowhere fast. You’ve probably been in that spot at one time or another…
And, speaking of wind, perhaps some of you recall an Irish singer from the ’80s and ’90s by the name of Enya. She had a very smooth and calm delivery. One of my favorites was a song she did called “Sail Away”; it was so relaxing you could almost fall asleep while listening to it. It felt like the wind was at your back so that you’re just moving along without effort.
Then, suddenly the wind shifts and things get tough. Isn’t that like life? We’re rolling along and then: wham-o! We’re buckin’ a head wind. It feels like we’ve shifted out of drive and find ourselves in neutral. Our steps seem to get us nowhere.
If you aren’t in that spot right now, you can probably relate, having been there before. Eventually, I made it to Carol’s house. So, no matter what the wind looks like that you’re bucking (since it comes in many forms), keep moving forward. Ask God to walk with you You’re gonna make it!
“Yet, those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not grow tired, they will WALK AND NOT BECOME WEARY.” (Isaiah 40:31)
So true. Thanks Teri. ❤️
Very nice 🙂
Well said (as always!)
Well said and very true, except the name of the song. It’s “Orinoco flow” 😂. I’ll win enya trivia every time
