The Front Lines

The other day as I walked through my neighborhood, I spotted this flag outside someone’s house.  While I was grateful to see a flag displayed for our country, at the same time, I was appalled at its condition.  How does that show respect for both the flag and the country?

When I was in college, I worked at the West Entrance to Glacier National Park.  Needless to say, we had a very tall flagpole where the flag was raised each day.  At sunset, it was taken down and at sunrise, it was put up.  When it rained, we ran out to retrieve it.  All of this was done in respect and was our routine.

Today, tattered flags hang out, rain or shine, day or night and no one seems to care or notice.  Which caused me to wonder:  what other things have we let slip?  My husband was in Viet Nam and came home to an angry populous who, not only did not acknowledge his service, but was even, at times, hostile.  Yet, he and his fellow service men were expected to just assimilate quietly.

Now we have police who have been taken to task because a handful have done something wrong.  So, let’s throw the baby out with the bath water, shall we???  Certainly, punish the guilty.  But, don’t lump everyone into that category.  I have known a few law enforcement officers, and they are very dedicated to their jobs, which often puts their lives on the line, unlike most jobs.

I have a friend who cares for her husband at home.  Unfortunately, he falls frequently and she is not able to help him up.  She has called the paramedics repeatedly and they come faithfully to offer assistance, without which she could not continue.

By the way, lest there be any confusion:  this is NOT a political statement.  It is simply an acknowledgement of the facts.  We have lost our appreciation and respect – both for our flag and for our country – as well as for those who have gone before to ensure our freedoms and for those who continue to do so.  Our military and our law enforcement – all of our first responders.  Those on the “front lines”.

Rodney Dangerfield based a career on his well-known phrase:  “I don’t get no respect.”  He’s not alone.

“…respect those who diligently labor among you.”  (1 Thessalonians 5:12)

THEY WON’T EVEN TEACH OR STUDY IT. TJHE BIBLE TELLS US TO BE ON HIGH ALERT FOR “THE QUICKENING. ” THIS REVELATION REVEALS HOW EVERY ASPECT OF OUR LIVES ARE BEING CHANGED AND THE WHY AND HOW. KNOWLEDGE IS THE KEY. PEOPLE ARE UNAWARE OF THE WARNINGS IN THIS BOOK OF REVELATION. EACH PERSON CAN KNOW WHAT IS COMING.. THE WORD OF GOD ALONE TELLS US WHAT IS COMING. it also assures the believer that his eternal truth must be shared. “Study to show thyself approved.”

Ren used to say the Pledge of Allegiance every single time we passed an American flag. It was so heartwarming! I’m thankful for the public school educators who continue to enforce this when so many have banned the Pledge as we know it.

Sad but so true! Respect needed.
The more we witness, the clearer God’s Word becomes. I’m so grateful that His Word will never pass away!
