Some years ago Joyce Landorf wrote a book called Irregular People. In it she describes someone who just rubs you the wrong way. Someone who gets under your skin. And, very often, this may be a family member either from your nuclear family or, perhaps, from your extended family. This, of course, makes family gatherings a bit dicey. It could also be a co-worker so that your eight-hour shift seems like an eternity.
As you read this, you may be picturing a specific person. A repeat offender. Constantly irritating you as if that’s his/her purpose in life.
Now that we have someone in mind, it’s time to step in front of a mirror. How often (if you ever take time to confess) do you admit the same sins to God? It’s uncomfortable and convicting to recognize this in ourselves. But, aren’t we also repeat offenders?
Paul says,
“For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, my flesh; for the wishing is present in me, but the doing good is not. For the good that I wish. I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not wish…Wretched man that I am!” (Romans 7:18-19, 24)
I confess that I get frustrated with myself when I seem to bring the same ole issues to the Lord. With that in mind, when we get annoyed by someone, we must remember to be “patient with all men” (1 Thessalonians 5:14).
God does this for us. Can we do anything less?
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
“He is patient with you…” (2 Peter 3:9)
“Love is patient, love is kind…it does not take into account a wrong suffered…” (1 Corinthians 13:4-5)
Oh, boy…that person came to mind instantly! So…I’m a repeat offender – sweet angel that I am!
Amen!❤🙏❤
Yep, I can sure relate! Thank you for the reminder!🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️
Amen 🙂
Great advice, to look in the mirror. Ouch!!
Grateful for the truth verses, and God’s love.
Who do I rub the wrong way. God show me today.
