Love Like The Wind

Sounds strange, doesn’t it?  Especially because the wind comes and goes.  Well, most analogies break down at some point, right?  But, hang on…

You can’t actually SEE the wind, but you can see its effects.  What do you see on a windy day?  Tree branches swaying, leaves blowing around, waves kicked up on a lake.

So, what about love?  Anyone can toss around the word.  “Luv ya!”, as they may proclaim.  Some have even been known to profess it just to ingratiate themselves and then squeeze what they want out of the hearer.  One of Dave’s catch-phrases is:  “The evidence is in the action.”

We might compare it to what James writes about faith in James 2:18.

“But, someone may say, ‘You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without works and I will show you my faith by my works.”

Thus, we might paraphrase:  “I’ll show you my love by what I do.”  Love is obvious in the action one takes.  Love is evident in a listening ear, in heartfelt prayers, in time spent, in kindness, compassion, putting the other first – willingly, not grudgingly.

O Lord, may we love like the wind.

“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  (Romans 5:8)

Generally speaking, in the western hemisphere, we are performance driven or so I’ve been told. We tend to make “love” a very demonstrative thing. Whereas the subtle invisible acts of listening, praying, kindness, compassion are not quickly identified as characteristics of love. On the opposite end of the spectrum, rudeness, impatience, etc are definite acts that are quickly identified which lack love and are motivated by self-interest.

Teri, your words put me into a pondering mode! Thank you and have a wonderful day.

This also caused me to think. What do others see? What does God see! He sees the heart! Kinda scary! We’re to test ourselves and see! Thx Teri!

Teri, You have shown me love in so many caring and “listening well” ways! It is WINDY here so I will think of your exhortation to “love like the wind”. Many thanks!!!!

Excellent thinking! While I slept in this morning my son went to the store to buy the meat I needed to cook….then my husband cooked it before I even got up. All my work was done! They love like the wind; I’m blessed!
